Josh’s Frogs Mealworms
Mealworms are the larvae of the Darkling Beetle Tenebrio molitor and have long been a staple feeder insect in the reptile, amphibian, and bird hobby because of how inexpensive and easy they are to store.
Mealworms are great feeder insects for:
Leopard GeckosCrested GeckosFat Tail GeckosBearded DragonslizardsWild birdsFish. In fact, some fishermen swear by Mealworms, calling them the ideal bait!
These Mealworms are about ½”-¾” in length, but sizes may vary slightly because they are a natural product.
How to Feed When Using With Reptiles/Amphibians
Mealworms can be fed as a treat or staple, depending on the animals you’re feeding. Make sure to dust Mealworms with a proper vitamin and mineral supplement before being fed to your pet. Feed Mealworms using feeding tongs or in a worm dish.
Older Mealworms may pupate, but these pupae may still be offered to your pet. Discard adult beetles, as most animals find these distasteful.
How to Feed When Using With Birds
Mealworms can be fed as a treat or staple for a wide variety of pet and wild birds like blue birds, orioles, grosbeaks, and robins.
Feed Mealworms by placing them in a deep plastic dish or feeder. Mealworms are climbers and will use wood sides to escape; so do not use a wooden bird feeder.
Wild birds absolutely love these high protein feeders as a treat and they can be taken back to the nest for fledglings.
How to Store
When Josh’s Frogs ships Mealworms, they are already stored on wheat bran without food – exactly how you want to keep them.
Keep Mealworms at 45-55F to prolong their lifespan. Under ideal conditions, mealworms should keep for several weeks.
As Mealworms worms go bad, they will become dark in color and eventually turn black and spoil. Discard any black Mealworms.
